Every plant is associated with a community of microbes – the microbiome – providing it with essential compounds and functions. There is a growing interest in using the plant microbiome properties as an alternative to chemicals and GMOs in sustainable agricultural practices. However, harnessing crop microbiomes requires a deeper understanding of the complex processes underlying microbe association to their hosts. At the crossroad of plant, microbial ecology, evolution, genomics and bioinformatics, my research aims to enable the use of microorganisms as alternatives to chemical fertilizers, pesticides and yield boosters in crop production.
